Attentional Limitations in Doing Two Tasks at the Same Time

چکیده
44 VOLUME 1, NUMBER 2, APRIL 1992 other highly mobile, disadvantaged children without added resources. Researchers have an important role to play in providing information to guide policy and evaluate programs. Although a number of studies have been conducted and more are under way, there are major gaps in the knowledge base. Little is known about the processes leading to or out of homelessness or the factors that ameliorate risk and facilitate better outcomes for children and their families. Most studies include heterogeneous samples of homeless families that differ markedly in background and current status on many dimensions that may be crucial for understanding causes and outcomes and for developing strategies to reduce the risks of becoming homeless or ameliorate its effects on parents and children. There is also a great need for information on the welfare of unaccompanied minors and how homeless runaways and abandoned children differ from or resemble homeless adolescents who stay with their families. In addition, there is a profound shortage of normative data on the development of ethnic minority children and of appropriately standardized measures for use with lowincome or minority children. Normative data on the development of ethnically and socioeconomically diverse populations of children would provide the context for understanding developmental problems among homeless and other high-risk populations. Finally, it is clear that isolated efforts, whether in the domain of research, policy, or intervention, limited to one place, one discipline, or one perspective, are inadequate to meaningfully address the complex problem of homeless children. Coordinated, multifaceted efforts are required at each level in each domain of inquiry and action. Helping homeless children and preventing homelessness may also depend on national acceptance of the idea that poor children belong to all of us. Certainly, their development will affect all of our futures.

Perform Three Data Mining Tasks with Crowdsourcing Process
For data mining studies, because of the complexity of doing feature selection process in tasks by hand, we need to send some of labeling to the workers with crowdsourcing activities. The process of outsourcing data mining tasks to users is often handled by software systems without enough knowledge of the age or geography of the users' residence. Uncertainty about the performance of virtual user...
متن کاملThe Impact of Doing Problem-Solving Tasks on Willingness to Communicate, Self-perceived Communication Competence, and Communication Apprehension among Iranian EFL Learners
Willingness to communicate (WTC) plays a central role in learning a second/foreign language. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of doing problem-solving task on learners’ WTC in English. To fulfill the purpose of the study, 61 pre-intermediate learners were chosen by means of administrating a placement test. Learners were pretested through three scales of WTC and its two ...
متن کاملA shared cortical bottleneck underlying Attentional Blink and Psychological Refractory Period
Doing two things at once is difficult. When two tasks have to be performed within a short interval, the second is sharply delayed, an effect called the Psychological Refractory Period (PRP). Similarly, when two successive visual targets are briefly flashed, people may fail to detect the second target (Attentional Blink or AB). Although AB and PRP are typically studied in very different paradigm...

Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify the role of attentional process in postural control using choice reaction time task while changing the visual and proprioceptive cues under difficult balance task (standing on one-leg). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted by participating 20 young people (22.75±2.29). Each subject performed one-leg standing as balance task for e...
متن کاملComputer Science at Kent Attentional capture in stimulus rich computer interfaces
To explore the degree which attentional set in one task interferes with performance in a secondary task, we have developed a prototype SRRI test system. This comprises a central task involving driving through a virtual maze and the presentation of an intermittent stream of competing stimuli of varying levels of salience. Centrally presented arrows are followed in the driving task and the stream...
